Company Safety Record
Since 1977, CAST has transported hundreds of thousands of truckloads and approximately 25,000 truckloads of hazardous and radioactive material over 20 million miles with zero reportable incidents, and zero OOS violations of any motor carrier hazardous material regulation. Drivers travel interstate and intrastate Colorado in primarily mountainous routes. The types of hazardous materials include TRU and LSA waste, aluminum sulfate solution, sulfuric acid and residual sulfuric acid.
CAST personnel attend ongoing training exercises for Emergency Response Capabilities. CAST is committed to safety for all, and is prepared to assist in managing and controlling any situation.
Presently, CAST safely transports hazardous, toxic, radioactive waste, as well as pipe, machinery, freight, transformers, bulk liquid chemical materials and many other commodities. CAST also has become well known for its ability to safely move oversized or heavy equipment, which requires permits and special routing.
Drivers are highly trained and mandated to always be in full compliance with the Federal Motor Carriers Safety Regulations. We provide our Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) drivers with tractors maintained to higher than industry standards. These tractors are designed for driver comfort (i.e., power steering, air conditioning, easy reach dash controls, daylight windows, and large instrumentation for visibility, walk-in sleeper).
Drivers keep daily communications with the Dispatcher to ensure hours of service compliance. CAST’s PMP has produced a downtime percentage average of only 0.26%.
CAST drivers travel mountain routes daily, crossing some of the country’s most treacherous mountain passes along I-70 corridor, including Loveland, Vail, Mt. Vernon Canyon and Floyd Hill. All CAST drivers go through extensive training for safe driving in adverse weather conditions and mountain settings.
CAST has transported over 35,000 truckloads for EagleGypsum since the inception of the initial contract without a single accident. CAST’s on-time delivery percentage averages 94% to 96%. Over the years, we have geared our trucks and our operation to run the mountain passes throughout the country. Having the proper equipment and qualified drivers have been vital to maintaining the accident free record and on-time delivery success we have had in all of our programs.
